About

Glenbrien National School is a small, rural primary school situated just behind Glenbrien Village. The school operates with a four‑teacher team and serves children from Junior Infants through Sixth Class. The purpose‑built premises were opened in 1992 and include a dedicated school hall and extensive playing fields, providing ample space for both indoor and outdoor learning activities. The school’s educational philosophy centres on the holistic development of each pupil, fostering academic progress alongside personal, social and creative growth. A vibrant community underpins the school’s ethos, with an active Parents’ Association that organises a wide range of events to enrich the curriculum. Glenbrien participates in several national programmes, including the Active Flag, Green Schools, Amber Flag and the Creative Schools initiative, which places the arts at the heart of student experience. The Board of Management ensures that resources and support are available to sustain these programmes and maintain a safe, nurturing environment for all learners.

History

The current school building was constructed in 1992, replacing earlier facilities and establishing a modern, purpose‑designed environment for the rural primary community of Glenbrien. Since then the school has expanded its extracurricular and creative offerings while maintaining a focus on holistic education.
