About
Scoil Chroí Ró Naofa is a rural, co‑educational Catholic primary school serving children from Junior Infants to 6th Class. Under the patronage of the Bishop of Ferns, the school embraces a holistic mission that nurtures the intellectual, emotional, spiritual, social and physical development of each pupil. A diverse curriculum is delivered in a supportive environment that values individuality and encourages respect for diversity, with a strong emphasis on tolerance, community involvement and extracurricular enrichment throughout the year. The school operates from a historic stone building dating to 1847, which has been expanded and modernised with additional permanent and prefabricated classrooms, a dedicated staffroom, principal’s office, secretary’s office and purpose room. Facilities include a specialised Crescent Class for pupils with autism, high‑speed broadband connectivity, and well‑maintained outdoor spaces that have earned multiple Green Flag awards for environmental stewardship. Supervision is provided from 9.10 am to 3.00 pm (2.00 pm for infants), and the school benefits from active support from its Board of Management, Parents Association and the local community.
History
Founded in a stone grain store built in 1847, the original two‑room school was expanded in the 1980s with a prefab classroom and further enlarged in 1994 with two permanent classrooms and a connecting corridor. By 2000 a part‑time Resource Teacher was appointed, and staffing grew with the addition of a full‑time Learning Support Teacher and Special Needs Assistant in 2005. Rapid enrolment increases led to the rental of additional prefab classrooms in 2007 and a community‑funded refurbishment of the original rooms in 2008, creating new staff facilities. As of 2018 the school employed five mainstream teachers, a Special Education Teacher, a Special Needs Assistant and support staff. Environmental commitment is demonstrated by three Green Flag awards received in 2007, 2009 and 2011, and the school crest, designed by a pupil in 2004, reflects its Catholic ethos and local heritage.
