About
St. Senan’s Primary School is a Catholic‑ethos primary school situated on the historic slopes of Vinegar Hill in Enniscorthy, County Wexford. The school welcomes children of all faiths and nationalities and places a strong emphasis on nurturing care as the foundation for lifelong health, wellbeing and academic success. A whole‑school nurturing approach underpins the curriculum, combining a broad and balanced programme of learning with restorative practice to promote belonging, social engagement and accountability. The school’s environment is described as safe, happy and inclusive, encouraging each pupil to reach their full potential. The school operates as a DEIS Band 1 institution, giving access to specialised programmes such as Reading Recovery, Maths Recovery, the School Completion Programme and the Home‑School Community Liaison Programme. Facilities include the purpose‑built “DEN” (Developing Educational Nurture) opened in 2018, which supports the restorative ethos and provides space for collaborative learning and extracurricular activities. A vibrant student council, a range of clubs and events, and a strong partnership with families and the wider community further enrich the educational experience.
History
St. Senan’s Primary School opened in 1978, replacing the former Mercy Convent School on the church grounds. The original staff comprised six teachers and the building consisted of only two corridors, which have since been expanded as the school grew. In 2018 the school celebrated its 40th anniversary, marking four decades of service to the Enniscorthy community and highlighting its evolution into a key parish institution.
