About
Shragh National School is a small rural primary school situated five miles from Kilrush in the parish of Doonbeg. Established on its present site in 1933, the school now educates eighteen pupils and provides a supportive environment that includes both mainstream and special education provision. The curriculum is underpinned by a strong emphasis on technology, with each classroom equipped with interactive whiteboards, data projectors and a one‑to‑one provision of laptops and iPads for every child, fostering digital literacy alongside traditional learning. The school benefits from extensive outdoor facilities, including a playing pitch, a basketball court, a marked play area, a willow garden, shrubbery and a picnic space created with the help of parents and children. Recent extensions have added a library, staff room, office, store‑room, resource room and modern children’s toilets, enhancing the learning environment. A hot school lunch scheme is also provided, supporting the wellbeing of pupils throughout the day. Environmental stewardship is a core part of the school’s ethos. Shragh National School holds nine Green Flags and a Digital Flag, reflecting its commitment to sustainability, energy conservation and global citizenship. Students actively engage in a range of sports and activities such as football, rugby, cross‑country, swimming, yoga and dance, promoting a well‑rounded education that extends beyond the classroom.
