About

Shercock National School is a Catholic primary school situated in the town of Shercock, providing co‑educational learning for children from the local community and surrounding rural areas. The school positions itself as an extension of the home, placing pupils’ wellbeing and happiness at the centre of its ethos. A strong emphasis is placed on diversity and inclusion, fostering a supportive environment where all children are encouraged to thrive academically, socially and emotionally. The school’s motto, *Ag Gluaiseacht Ar Aghaidh le Chéile* (Moving Forward Together), reflects a collaborative partnership between pupils, parents, staff and the wider community. The campus comprises seven general classrooms together with two dedicated Special Education Support rooms, a learning support suite, a staff room, a secretary’s reception area and a principal’s office, providing a well‑resourced setting for both mainstream and additional learning needs. Modern extensions added in recent years have allowed the school to accommodate a growing enrolment, now exceeding 200 pupils, and to support a multicultural student body that mirrors the diverse workforce of the local Manor Farms community. An active Board of Management and a vibrant parent body underpin the school’s commitment to maintaining high standards and delivering a balanced, child‑centred curriculum.

History

St Patrick’s National School, Shercock was founded in 1893 with two classrooms. A third classroom was added in the early 1940s after the closure of Lecks National School. The arrival of the Carton Bros. Manor Farm Processing Plant in 1970 spurred local growth, leading to the construction of a new housing estate in Lisdrumskeagh in 1975 and the closure of Dhuish National School, whose pupils transferred to Shercock. The present school building was completed in 1995, originally offering six classrooms, a learning support room and a staff room. In 2014 a seventh classroom was added, and further expansion work began in January 2020, completing an additional classroom by June 2020. The school operates under the patronage of the Bishop of Kilmore and is managed by a community‑representative Board of Management, with the guiding motto *Ag Gluaiseacht Ar Aghaidh le Chéile*.
