About
Cabra Central National School is a co‑educational primary school set in a tranquil rural location just outside Kingscourt, County Cavan. Operating under Church of Ireland patronage while welcoming pupils of all faiths (or none), the school provides a family‑type learning atmosphere characterised by a low pupil‑to‑teacher ratio. Three mainstream teachers and a shared Special Education teacher deliver multi‑grade classes – Junior and Senior Infants with 1st class together, 2nd to 4th classes combined, and 5th to 6th classes grouped – allowing flexible teaching and personalised support. The school’s facilities include bright, spacious classrooms and a generous outdoor play area divided into separate zones for each class grouping. A book‑rental scheme and the absence of a school uniform help keep costs low for families. An active Parents’ Association organises fundraising events such as cake sales, quizzes and fêtes, which fund additional educational resources and school trips, further enriching the pupil experience.
History
The present school was formed in 1978 through the amalgamation of three Church of Ireland schools in Shercock, Kingscourt and Carrickmacross. Since then it has welcomed children from the surrounding Meath, Cavan, Monaghan and Louth areas, is served by two school buses and lies within walking distance of Kingscourt town, crèches and after‑school facilities.
