About

Under Church of Ireland patronage, Killeshandra National School is a co-educational parish primary school in Killeshandra, Co. Cavan, with 48 pupils. Religious education is taught within the Church of Ireland tradition, and the school states its aim as equipping pupils with life skills and an interest in further education. Classes run from Junior Infants to 6th Class in multi-grade rooms, among them a Junior Room and a Middle Room, and 8 pupils completed 6th Class in 2026. Aistear themes shape the Junior Room year, closing with a summer topic in which children built model boats and tested them in water. Science work has covered life cycles: hen eggs kept in an incubator for 21 days hatched 8 chicks, while the Middle Room reared 5 caterpillars into butterflies and kept observation records. Raised beds on the grounds carry sunflowers, lettuce, beetroot, onions, beans, potatoes and strawberries. A Student Council organises events, and the Parents Association gives hoodies to each 6th Class group. The year also takes in a sports day, a whole-school outing on the Killeshandra Loop Walk and a visit from the local fire service.
