About

Cavan No.1 National School is a Church of Ireland primary school situated in Cavan, catering for children from junior and senior infants through to sixth class. The school’s ethos is firmly rooted in Christian values such as compassion, forgiveness and respect, while actively celebrating cultural diversity. Its small, close‑knit size creates a family‑like atmosphere that supports the academic, social and spiritual development of every pupil, and the school is currently open for enrolment. The school offers a comprehensive suite of resources for both families and learners. Dedicated parent‑resource sections provide guidance and information, while the Student Zone supplies engaging home‑learning activities. Class‑specific pages give insight into the curriculum for junior/senior infants, 1st class, 2nd‑4th and 5th‑6th classes. Core values and policies are openly published online, reinforcing a safe, welcoming environment and a partnership‑focused approach with families.

History

The school building was erected in 1820, probably designed by William Farrell, and originally served as a national school for Church of Ireland children. As was typical of the period, the classroom was located at the rear of the building while the schoolmaster lived in the front house. The school has remained in continuous operation for almost two centuries.
