About

Caim National School is a vibrant primary school situated about six kilometres north of Enniscorthy in the scenic parish of Ballindaggin. The school delivers a child‑centred, activity‑based curriculum that celebrates diversity and recognises each pupil’s strengths. It maintains strong community links and an active Parent Association which supports a wide range of extracurricular and enrichment programmes, including quizzes, competitions, mobile library visits, ESB Science Blast and Junior Achievement projects. The campus has developed considerably since its opening in 1968. Modern facilities include two state‑of‑the‑art classrooms and a glass‑enclosed corridor added in 2008, with a further extension completed in 2017 providing additional mainstream and learning‑support spaces. Outdoor amenities feature a basketball court, two full‑sized pitches and a concrete play area equipped with traditional games. Each classroom is fitted with laptops, interactive whiteboards and iPads, offering a high standard of ICT provision. A robust sporting programme sees pupils participating in the Rackard League, local soccer blitzes and receiving coaching from the GAA, Leinster hockey and Leinster rugby.

History

The original school near the church was built in 1904 and later became the community centre. The current Caim National School opened in 1968. The first extension in 1982 added a mainstream classroom and a hall. A second extension in 2008 introduced two modern classrooms and a connecting glass corridor. Planning for a further extension began in 2013, delivering an additional mainstream classroom and a learning‑support room, with a second support room funded later that year and disabled facilities approved in 2014. In July 2016 the Department funded fire‑safety works, and in May 2017 the school benefitted from the Summer Works Scheme 2016, which replaced the boiler and heating system in the older section. The same year saw interior and exterior repainting, construction of a new play area and relocation of the staff car park, completing the transformation into a modern 21st‑century learning centre.
