About
St. Joseph’s Primary School is a co‑educational primary school in Gorey, County Wexford, catering for children from Junior Infants through to Sixth Class. The school currently enrols more than 300 pupils and provides a broad, balanced curriculum that blends traditional academic subjects with a strong emphasis on active learning, sport, music, chess and STEM activities. A vibrant after‑school programme and a range of clubs – including a school garden, book club and active‑school initiatives – support the development of confidence, teamwork and a love of learning beyond the classroom. The school moved to its present Creagh site in September 2014, where purpose‑built facilities accommodate modern teaching and recreational needs. Dedicated spaces for science, art and technology, alongside well‑maintained playgrounds and a school garden, enable hands‑on exploration. Uniform standards and a clear ethos promote a respectful, inclusive environment, while regular events such as sports weeks, maths week and Seachtain na Gaeilge celebrate cultural and academic achievement.
History
St. Joseph’s Primary School was founded in 1959 by the Christian Brothers on a site in the centre of Gorey town. For the first 55 years it operated as an all‑boys senior primary school, serving pupils from second class to sixth class. In September 2014 the school relocated to Creagh and, for the first time, welcomed both girls and junior classes, becoming a fully co‑educational primary school from Junior Infants to Sixth Class.
