About
Gorey Educate Together National School is a state‑funded primary school that delivers the Irish National Primary Curriculum alongside the Learn Together ethical education programme. The school follows the four core principles of the Educate Together movement, providing an inclusive, child‑centred environment where pupils of all backgrounds can thrive academically, socially and morally. Daily lessons are complemented by a dedicated 30‑minute Learn Together session that explores a wide range of moral, social, ethical and religious topics, fostering confidence, creativity and respect for diversity. The purpose‑built campus, opened in 2008 and subsequently expanded, offers 16 spacious classrooms, a library, a sports hall, specialised facilities for special education, and three outdoor play areas including an Outdoor Classroom added in 2013. Recent building projects (2015‑2017) introduced an additional special‑education classroom, an enlarged staffroom and a new play‑and‑gardening area. The school is equipped with interactive whiteboards in all mainstream rooms, touch‑screen computers for special classes, high‑speed broadband, and extensive PE equipment, ensuring a modern learning environment. A vibrant school life includes garden projects, Seachtain na Gaeilge, Diversity Week, science competitions, sports tournaments, a School Council, Green Schools committee, and regular performances, all contributing to a well‑rounded education.
History
Gorey Educate Together National School opened in September 2005 following a sustained campaign by local parents to provide an Educate Together primary option in Gorey. Initially housed in the St Waleran’s house on the northern edge of the town, the school moved to permanent, purpose‑built premises in 2008. An extension in 2009 added further facilities, and in 2013 an Outdoor Classroom was created. The school introduced its first special class for children with autism in 2008. A major building project between 2015 and 2017 provided an additional special‑education classroom, an expanded staffroom and a new play and gardening area, supporting the school’s continued growth and development.
