About
Ballythomas National School is a small, rural, co‑educational Catholic primary school situated in north County Wexford, set in an area of outstanding natural beauty 13 km from Gorey and 11 km from Tinahely. The school currently educates 57 children with three mainstream teachers and a full‑time learning support teacher, providing a supportive environment that balances academic learning with a strong emphasis on health, well‑being and Irish culture. A healthy‑eating policy and participation in Active Schools Week underline its commitment to pupils’ physical welfare, while the Amber Flag initiative promotes positive mental health throughout the school community. The curriculum is enriched by a wide range of extra‑curricular activities. All pupils learn the tin‑whistle and take part in traditional Irish sports such as hurling and Gaelic football, alongside tennis lessons, drumming, rugby, tae‑kwon‑do, choir, drama, gardening club, ukulele and other music programmes. The school also competes in local GAA leagues (Rackard League and Mini‑Sevens) and has performed in the National Opera House’s Sing Out Loud event. An after‑school club runs each day from 13:40 to 14:40 for the infants classroom, offering additional supervised play and learning opportunities.
