About
Templederry National School is a mixed, rural primary school situated between the towns of Nenagh and Thurles. It caters for children from Junior Infants to 6th class (approximately 4‑13 years) and currently has around 100 pupils drawn from 65 families. The school operates with a team of four full‑time mainstream teachers, a full special‑education post and serves as the base school for an additional shared special‑education position, providing a supportive learning environment for a diverse range of needs. The school’s campus is set on spacious, tastefully landscaped grounds that include three dedicated playing fields and a brand‑new 2,000 m² astro‑turf pitch, offering ample space for sport and outdoor activities. A strong emphasis is placed on environmental stewardship; the school participates in the Green Schools programme, having earned multiple Green Flags for initiatives on litter, waste, energy, water and travel, and it actively encourages recycling and a litter‑free ethos among pupils. These facilities and values combine to create a stimulating, safe and attractive setting for children’s academic and personal development.
History
Templederry National School was originally constructed in 1962‑63 as a two‑teacher school. In 1974 the building was extended to accommodate pupils transferred from the closed Gortnagoona, Latteragh and Curreeney national schools. The school now serves the immediate Templederry community as well as a wider catchment area, with many children travelling by bus or car. Its grounds are noted for being spacious and well‑landscaped, featuring three playing fields and a modern astro‑turf surface. The school has a record of environmental achievement, having won the Tidy Schools Competition organised by Tipperary County Council.
