History
Lacken National School, now known as Scoil Mhuire Lacken, opened in 1950 as an amalgamation of three former schools – Legaginney National School, Drumbrade National School and Wateraughty National School. Legaginney and Drumbrade both closed on 4 August 1950, their buildings later repurposed as private homes, while Wateraughty ceased operation on 19 September 1971 and its premises were taken over by the Fisheries Board. Since its establishment, Scoil Mhuire Lacken has grown to a six‑teacher institution, maintaining a strong tradition of serving generations of families in the Potahee parish.
