About

Scoil Mhuire Rosslare is a co‑educational Catholic primary school that provides a nurturing, well‑ordered environment where children’s intellectual, spiritual, physical, moral and cultural needs are met. The school’s vision is to stimulate each pupil to reach their full potential, fostering confidence, respect and a love of learning within a climate of trust, care and acceptance. A broad curriculum is complemented by a rich programme of extracurricular activities, including science projects, environmental awareness initiatives, music and singing, as well as a variety of sports such as GAA, soccer, rugby, swimming and athletics. Recent investment through the Irish National Recovery and Resilience Plan has equipped the school with a fleet of Chromebooks, narrowing the digital divide and enabling all learners to develop essential digital skills both in‑class and at home. Facilities include modern classrooms, a well‑stocked library funded by a local trust, a kitchen, staff and lunch rooms, a dedicated art and learning‑support space, and a strong room for equipment. The school’s active community ethos is reflected in its participation in local events and its commitment to inclusive, high‑quality education for every child.

History

Scoil Mhuire was founded in 1932 by the Sisters of Mercy, originally comprising three partitioned classrooms heated by coal fires and two cloakrooms. A new infant classroom was added in 1966, followed by a major extension in 1973 that replaced the original rooms with three new classrooms, a library funded by the Dr Desmond Ffrench Trust, a kitchen, staff room and a converted shelter that became a lunchroom and later an art room. In 1984 two additional classrooms, a strong room and an equipment room were built. The school transitioned to lay leadership in 1991, and in 1992 the James Stevens room was opened as a local history museum and learning‑support space; it was later relocated to the refurbished art room after further staffing changes in 2006.
