About

Gaelscoil Charman is a full‑time Irish‑medium primary school situated in the heart of Wexford town. The school occupies a modern, purpose‑built campus that includes a well‑stocked library, a spacious playground, and the scenic Cosáin Mháire for outdoor activities. Facilities are designed to support a broad curriculum that embraces music, drama and sport alongside the core academic programme, all delivered through the medium of Gaeilge. The school’s ethos places the Irish language at the centre of daily life; Irish is heard throughout the building and is the language of instruction from the early years (Naíonáin) through to Grade 6. A distinctive feature of Gaelscoil Charman is the specialist class An Lasair Choille, opened in 2023, which provides a fully Irish‑medium learning environment for children on the autism spectrum. This reflects the school’s commitment to inclusive education and to meeting the diverse needs of its community while maintaining a strong cultural focus. The school is part of An Foras Pátrúnachta, reinforcing its status as a patron‑supported, community‑driven institution that promotes Irish language and culture throughout the local area.

History

Gaelscoil Charman was established in 1994 as a full‑Irish primary school under the patronage of An Foras Pátrúnachta. Since its founding, the school has grown to serve children from Naíonáin to Grade 6 and has developed a reputation for high‑quality Irish‑medium education. In 2023 the school launched the dedicated autism class An Lasair Choille, further expanding its inclusive provision.
