About
Kilnamona National School is a co‑educational primary school situated 8 km north‑west of Ennis in County Clare. With an enrolment of approximately 85 pupils, the school provides a safe, respectful and happy environment that underpins its teaching and learning ethos. The curriculum is delivered through a blend of traditional classroom instruction and a strong emphasis on digital learning, giving pupils opportunities to engage with meaningful online resources as well as hands‑on activities beyond the classroom. The school’s facilities support a holistic approach to education. There are four mainstream classrooms organised into Junior and Senior Infants, 1st‑2nd, 3rd‑4th and 5th‑6th classes, plus a versatile General Purpose room used for art, drama, choir practice and assemblies. Dedicated Special Education Teaching (SET) provision includes two fully equipped SET rooms, a sensory room and indoor/outdoor sensory circuits, enabling inclusive support for pupils with additional needs. Wellbeing and resilience are woven into daily life, with programmes that promote strong home‑school links, active parental involvement and a healthy eating policy.
History
Kilnamona National School originated in a two‑classroom stone building constructed in 1889. In 1989 the community added two new classrooms, toilets and a cloakroom. A major extension in 2009 introduced an additional classroom adjoining two SET rooms, a store, staff room, further toilets, an office, hallway and reception; several of these spaces have since been repurposed as the current sensory room and sensory circuit areas.
