About

Tuamgraney National School is a vibrant primary school serving the parish of Bodyke in East Clare. The school caters for Junior Infants through to Sixth Class and prides itself on a holistic approach that nurtures pupils’ spiritual, intellectual, aesthetic, cultural and physical development. A strong emphasis is placed on active learning and community involvement – recent initiatives include the “Run Munster” programme, where children log laps around the school grounds to collectively measure the distance to each Irish county, and a Green Schools project now in its fifth flag, focusing on energy awareness and sustainability. The campus has been expanded to meet growing demand, with a two‑storey extension opened in October 2008 that provides two modern classrooms, a dedicated learning‑support room and additional storage. Facilities support a broad curriculum, including a well‑structured physical‑education programme and regular participation in sports such as basketball, where pupils have achieved notable success in regional competitions. The school’s mission, under the patronage of the Catholic Bishop of Killaloe, is to maximise every child’s abilities while fostering respect, love and a sense of belonging among pupils of all faiths and cultural backgrounds.

History

Tuamgraney National School was founded in 1895 as a typical rural two‑room schoolhouse. Over the past decade the pupil roll has more than doubled, prompting a series of development phases. The most recent upgrade, a two‑storey extension containing two new classrooms, a learning‑support room and storage space, was officially opened in October 2008. The school continues to evolve while retaining its historic roots in the Bodyke parish.
