About

Enrolment stands at 543 pupils at this co-educational Catholic primary school in Enfield, Co. Meath, which is laid out to hold about 600 children from Junior Infants to sixth class. The Bishop of Meath is the school patron. There are 24 classrooms, with 3 class groups at each year level. Three special classes for children with autism opened in September 2023 in a new extension, which contains 3 classrooms, a large hall, a playground, a sensory garden and sensory rooms. Special education teachers and special needs assistants work with pupils alongside class teachers. Pupils compete in Cumann na mBunscol football, cross country running and interschool show jumping, and a summer camp runs at the end of the school year. A student council operates in the school, which has raised the Cineáltas flag for its work promoting kindness and inclusion. The launch of the Enfield Autism Friendly Town initiative was held on the school grounds. Its stated aim is the development of pupils in intellectual, physical, cultural, moral and spiritual terms, in a setting the school describes as inclusive.

History

A school of 3 rooms was built on the site in 1953, replacing a 2-room building that stood in front of it. Another 3 rooms were added in 1984. The population of Enfield grew from 2004 on, and temporary accommodation was put in place year after year to take the extra pupils. A replacement school opened for the 2012-2013 school year with 16 classrooms, enough for 2 class groups at each level. A further 8 classrooms were then built, and the 24-classroom school opened in September 2014. The extension holding the autism classes and their associated facilities opened in 2023.
