Emphasis is placed on kindness, respect for the environment and the development of interpersonal skills, ensuring each pupil enjoys a happy, safe and inclusive learning experience. The campus on Park Road, Monaghan, comprises twelve mainstream classrooms, eight specialised resource rooms and a shared PE hall, supporting a wide range of learning needs and activities. Facilities are designed to promote holistic development, with spaces for collaborative work, quiet reflection and active play. The school’s ethos celebrates Irish culture, through language, poetry, music and dance, while welcoming families from diverse backgrounds, fostering a community where every child is valued as a unique individual.
History
The St. Louis Sisters arrived in Monaghan from France nearly 160 years ago, establishing their first school on Mill Street before moving to North Road, Latlurcan and finally building a convent on the former brewery grounds. An infant school operated on Broad Road in the early 1900s, serving boys and girls up to First Class. In 1963 the school relocated to its present Park Road site, initially with six classrooms; today it boasts twelve mainstream classrooms, eight resource rooms and a PE hall shared with St. Louis G.N.S. The Sisters oversaw education from 1859 until 1999, when lay administration took over, and the last sister retired in 2002. The school now operates with an all‑lay staff while upholding the Louis Sisters’ tradition of care and excellence.
