About
St. Edan’s National School is a small, mixed‑gender primary school situated just outside the historic village of Ferns in County Wexford, approximately 20 minutes south of Gorey and 30 minutes north of Wexford town. The school operates two classrooms – a junior room for Junior Infants to 2nd class and a senior room for 3rd to 6th class – and is under the patronage of the Diocese of Cashel, Ferns and Ossory, with close ties to St Edan’s Cathedral and the local community. The school’s ethos centres on a child‑focused, holistic learning environment where each pupil is valued, cared for and encouraged to develop academically, spiritually, emotionally and socially. Learning is designed to be inclusive and welcoming to children of all faiths, with strong parental involvement encouraged throughout the educational journey. The curriculum is complemented by a range of extracurricular activities, including GAA, music concerts, soccer blitzes, the Primary Science Award of Excellence and the Green School programme, fostering a well‑rounded experience. Additional facilities support the whole‑child approach: a breakfast and after‑school club, operating since September 2024, provides care for both pupils and local children, while a fully funded hot school meals programme, supplied by Glanmore Foods, meets national nutritional standards. These provisions, together with the school’s community links, create a supportive and vibrant setting for young learners.
