About
St Brigid’s National School, locally known as Grange National School, is a vibrant co‑educational primary situated on the outskirts of Tullow, County Carlow. The school caters for Junior and Senior Infants through to 6th Class, offering a modern learning environment that includes eight mainstream classrooms, specialist spaces for special‑needs and learning‑support provision, and a range of dedicated areas for sport, the arts and outdoor activities. Uniforms are supplied locally and the timetable is extended for senior classes to accommodate a broad curriculum and extracurricular programme. The school’s educational philosophy centres on encouragement, inclusivity and the holistic development of each child. A wide variety of activities – from football, basketball and equestrian inter‑school competitions to Irish dancing, music lessons, choir, drama and debating – complement the academic programme and foster confidence and teamwork. A strong partnership with parents, underpinned by an active Parents Association, ensures a supportive community where children feel safe, respected and motivated to reach their full potential.
History
Established in the late 1800s, St Brigid’s originally held classes in the local church before a two‑teacher Catholic school was constructed on part of the present site. The original building’s design has been retained, while three modern extensions have been added in recent years, expanding the school to eight mainstream classrooms. Over the past decade enrolment has grown from 45 to approximately 200 pupils, while the Board of Management continues to preserve the close‑knit, country‑school atmosphere.
