About

Scoil Naomh Bhríde is a co-educational primary school in Union Hall, County Cork, serving the children of Union Hall village, the parish of Myross, and some surrounding parishes. The school has four classroom teachers since September 2019 and a learning support teacher based in the school. It is a health-promoting school. The school is about eight miles from Skibbereen, where Skibbereen Community School opened in 2016; children from the school are guaranteed a place there and are transported by school bus. Subjects taught include Gaeilge, Mathematics, Physical Education, English, Religion, Visual Arts, Music, Drama, History, Geography, Science (SESE), and Social, Personal and Health Education (SPHE). The school participates in activities such as sailing in Glandore, the Active Flag programme, and various sports and music events.

History

The school opened in 1989, replacing an older school in the townland of Cahergal, a few minutes' walk from the current site. That old school had served the community for 104 years and is now a private residence. The new school took about three years to build and has four classrooms, a large hall, a kitchen, a staff room, an office and storage spaces. In January 2011, the school moved to the local community hall for two weeks while the roof was replaced.
