About
On Main Street in the village of Leap, west Cork, this Catholic primary school takes the Irish name Scoil an Chroí Naofa and is co-educational, with roughly 40 pupils. Four classrooms occupy the building, along with a general purpose room, a staff room, an office, a kitchen and a storeroom. The hall doubles as the venue for physical education, concerts and extracurricular classes including Tae Kwon Do, drama and céilí dancing. Outside there are three tarmacked play areas, a grassed area, a school garden with raised beds, and a wooded area at the rear used for nature study. Classrooms have libraries of their own, a mobile library calls, and pupils use laptops for coursework under supervision. Sport takes in swimming lessons for every pupil, Gaelic football through Sciath na Scol with training at the nearby Kilmacabea GAA grounds, and a sailing course in Glandore Harbour for senior classes run by Glandore Harbour Yacht Club. There is a school choir that sings in the local church. The school holds Green Schools flags and Amber Flag status. A community playschool and a before school and afterschool club also operate on the site.
