About

Scoil Naomh Molaise is a co‑educational primary school with a Catholic ethos situated in the village of Grange, North Sligo. The school serves a vibrant community of 277 pupils and is staffed by 16 teachers and 10 special needs assistants, providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment. A special class was introduced in September 2025, reflecting the school’s commitment to catering for diverse educational needs and fostering the personal development of every child. The campus has been significantly expanded in recent years. The new extension adds four modern classrooms, four resource rooms and a dedicated staffroom. Sporting facilities include a 40 m × 30 m Astro‑turf pitch, a grass Gaelic football pitch and a tarmacadam play area at the front of the school, offering ample space for physical education and extracurricular activities. Together with a strong focus on community values, these facilities underpin a holistic approach to education that balances academic achievement with personal growth and wellbeing.

History

The school is named after St Molaise, a 6th‑century founder of the monastic settlement on Inishmurray, whose legacy inspires the community. The original school on the present site opened in 1984, replacing a three‑roomed school built in 1962, which itself had succeeded a two‑roomed 19th‑century school. Recent extensions have added four classrooms, four resource rooms, a staffroom, a 40 m × 30 m Astro pitch, a new grass Gaelic football pitch and a tarmacadam play area, enhancing the school’s capacity and facilities.
