About

Scoil Mháirtín is a vibrant national primary school situated in the heart of Kilworth village. Its stated aim is to provide a caring, learning environment that nurtures each pupil’s full educational potential. The school embraces a holistic approach, combining a strong academic programme with a focus on personal development, global citizenship and environmental stewardship, as demonstrated by its participation in the Green School initiative and recent “Global Citizenship Litter and Waste” projects. The campus comprises thirteen modern classrooms, four dedicated resource rooms, a well‑equipped library/computer suite and a spacious PE hall, allowing a wide range of curricular and extracurricular activities. Recent highlights include the Return to School 2024 celebrations, success in the Sciath na Scol competition and recognition as Green School of the Year, reflecting the school’s commitment to community involvement and sustainable practices.

History

Scoil Mháirtín opened in September 2008 on the site of the former boys’ school, which had served the community since 1966. The school resulted from the amalgamation of Kilworth Junior and Senior schools to accommodate a growing local population. Initially offering eight classrooms, a five‑classroom extension with an additional resource room was completed in November 2013, bringing the total to thirteen classrooms, four resource rooms, a library/computer room and a PE hall.
