About
St. Tiarnach’s Primary School, Clones, is a co‑educational primary school situated on Roslea Road. It caters for approximately 265 pupils of diverse backgrounds, with twelve classrooms, including two dedicated ASD classrooms and specialised early‑intervention units (Réalta Beaga and Réalta Móra). The school places a strong emphasis on inclusive education, providing a supportive environment where children of all abilities are nurtured through tailored programmes such as the SEN Nessy initiative and the Accelerated Reader scheme. The curriculum follows the redeveloped Primary School Curriculum, organised into five learning areas that highlight Arts, STEM, Wellbeing and religious/ethical education. Recent digital investment, funded through the Irish National Recovery and Resilience Plan, has equipped the school with high‑speed broadband, iPads for creative storytelling and a range of online resources to bridge the digital divide for learners at risk of disadvantage. Outdoor facilities include a spacious playground and garden, and the school’s front façade is noted for its colourful display of flags representing the twelve nationalities represented among the pupils.
History
The school was originally known as Scoil Chroí Ró Naofa, an amalgamation of St Louis JNS and Scoil Mhuire SNS. In early 2008 the school moved to a new Generic Repeat Design building on Roslea Road, followed shortly by an extension of four additional classrooms. By 2017 further inclusive provisions were introduced with the establishment of the Réalta Beaga (Early Intervention) and Réalta Móra (ASD) programmes, expanding the school’s capacity to support diverse learning needs.
