About

Kildallan National School is a small, community‑focused primary school that prides itself on fostering mutual respect, courtesy and a love of learning in every child. The school’s ethos encourages each pupil to achieve their full potential across academic, social and personal domains, with an emphasis on inclusive practice and supportive relationships. The school benefits from a modernised building that has evolved considerably since its original 1900 construction. Classrooms have been refurbished with carpet tiles, contemporary furniture and storage heaters, while a prefabricated annex provides additional space for junior classes. Technological resources include computers, televisions and multimedia equipment, and a dedicated Resource/Learning Support provision assists pupils with additional needs. The school’s commitment to holistic development is reflected in its participation in programmes such as the Green School, Junior Entrepreneur, Health Promoting School and Blue Star awards, highlighting a strong focus on environmental awareness, enterprise, health and wellbeing.

History

Kildallan National School was established in 1900. Early pupils walked barefoot to school, carried turf for heating and used separate wooden shed toilets. Discipline was administered through corporal punishment. In 1918 a second teacher was appointed, dividing the single room. The 1960s‑70s saw a complete rebuild with flushed toilets and a cemented yard. The 1980s refurbishment introduced carpet tiles, new furniture and storage heaters, replacing the open fires. The 1990s added a prefabricated classroom for junior classes, removed the 1918 dividing wall and introduced resource/support teachers and modern equipment such as computers and multimedia devices. In 2010 the school appointed a third teacher for the first time in its history.
