About
Gaelscoil Eoghan Uí Thuairisc is an Irish‑medium primary school that provides full‑time immersion education for children from Junior Infants to Sixth Class. The curriculum is delivered through the medium of Irish, fostering fluency and cultural appreciation while meeting the national standards for literacy, numeracy and personal development. The school promotes active learning, with a strong emphasis on community involvement, environmental awareness and the arts, as reflected in its regular newsletters, social media outreach and celebration of milestones such as its 40th anniversary. The campus combines modern facilities with a welcoming atmosphere. There are twenty brightly decorated classrooms equipped with interactive whiteboards, built‑in storage and contemporary furniture. Supporting learning needs are catered for in three dedicated learning‑support rooms and a well‑stocked library. Physical education is facilitated by a purpose‑built sports hall, a specialised sports wall installed in 2012, and extensive grassed and garden areas for both infant and senior pupils. These resources enable a balanced programme of academic, sporting and creative activities within a safe, inclusive environment.
History
Gaelscoil Eoghan Uí Thuairisc was founded on 1 September 1982 with 20 pupils and a single teacher, responding to parental demand for primary education through the Irish language. It was named in memory of the poet and educator Eoghan Ó Tuairisc (1919‑1982). The school initially operated on Pollerton Road, expanding over the years to include 17 prefabricated classrooms, resource rooms and a sports hall by 2006. Construction of a new purpose‑built campus in Ashgrove began on 23 January 2006, and the school moved into its current facilities on 13 December 2006. The modern site now houses twenty classrooms, three learning‑support rooms, offices, a meeting room, a library, a sports hall, two playgrounds and a garden, all designed to support contemporary Irish‑medium education.
