History

Coláiste Phobal Ros Cré was formed in 1999 through the amalgamation of three historic institutions: the Sacred Heart Convent (established by Mother Madeleine Sophie Barat, with a presence in Roscrea since 1823, boarding closed in 1976 and a 150th anniversary celebrated in 1992), Roscrea Vocational School (originating at Damer House in 1931, moving to a new building on Corville Road in 1956 and expanding in 1984 to accommodate over 600 day pupils and extensive night classes), and the Christian Brothers School (opened in 1961 with 29 boys, later achieving national top‑rankings in Leaving Certificate subjects and notable sporting success). The merged college is governed by a Board of Management under the Tipperary Education and Training Board, continuing the legacy of its predecessor schools into the 21st century.
