About

Based in Ongar Village, Dublin 15, Castaheany Educate Together National School is a co-educational multi-denominational primary school with DEIS status. It is organised into 16 mainstream classes, with enrolment recorded at close to 400 pupils and a staff team of 40. The Educate Together ethos is central, and the school sets out equality of access and esteem for every child regardless of social, cultural or religious background. A nurture room operates alongside the mainstream classes, and a home school community liaison service supports families. All pupils receive a morning snack and a hot meal during the school day. Beyond the standard curriculum, teaching covers literacy, numeracy, Gaeilge, STEM, the arts, wellbeing and the Learn Together programme. Pupils take part in Green-Schools activity, which has included tree planting, a wormery and a pond on the grounds, and the school hosts an automatic weather station recording local rainfall, temperature and wind. A student council, a parent teacher association, Yellow Flag work and an Active School strand also run.

History

The school opened on 8th September 2004 with 3 teachers and 52 pupils, and at first had no premises of its own. For the first year, pupils travelled by bus to Lucan each day and were accommodated by Griffeen Valley ETNS. In September 2005 the school moved into prefabs at Mary Mother of Hope National School in Littlepace, sharing those facilities for three years while growing from 3 classes to 12. The Department of Education and Skills provided a permanent building at Ongar Village in 2008, and pupils, staff and parents marked the move with a parade from Littlepace to Ongar on 9th June. The school's tenth anniversary was celebrated in 2014 with parties and a talent show.
