About

Carraroe National School (Scoil Naomh Éanna) is a co‑educational, mainstream primary school situated on the outskirts of Sligo town, overlooking Knocknarea and Tobernalt Holy Well. Under the patronage of the Catholic Bishop of Elphin, the school welcomes pupils of all faiths and backgrounds, fostering a happy, inclusive and caring learning environment. The curriculum is delivered by a team of fifteen classroom teachers, supported by special‑education teachers and assistants, and is guided by the Department of Education’s regulations and resources. The campus combines modern facilities with ample outdoor space. Recent extensions include the 2007 building phase, the Radharc na Sí addition in 2014 and a two‑storey development completed in 2021. Pupils benefit from a large PE hall, two grass pitches, three main yard areas and a well‑maintained school garden, Slí na Óg. The school’s ethos promotes academic excellence, sporting culture and extracurricular activities, reflected in awards such as the Science Foundation Ireland Curious Minds Gold Award and the Amber Flag Mental Health Awareness Programme.

It was created through the amalgamation of Lakeview National School and has grown to accommodate 368 pupils. Over the decades the school has expanded its facilities, with major building projects in 2007, the opening of Radharc na Sí in 2014 and a two‑storey development in 2021, reflecting its ongoing commitment to providing a modern learning environment for the community.
