About

Boston National School is a small, community‑focused primary school situated in the townland of Drumnadeevna, Tubber, Co. Clare. The school’s ethos centres on creating a happy, safe environment where children are encouraged to become independent thinkers, collaborative team‑players and enthusiastic learners. Teaching is grounded in active, child‑centred learning, with an emphasis on empathy, creativity and problem‑solving, and the curriculum is enriched by the school’s unique natural setting in the Burren, allowing pupils to develop a strong awareness of their local environment and biodiversity. The school operates from a purpose‑built complex that now includes two main classrooms, a dedicated SET (Special Educational Needs) room, staff and office spaces, and modern toilet facilities. A new extension, completed in 2023, doubled the school’s footprint, providing additional learning spaces and enhancing the range of resources available to students, including specialised support for children with additional needs. With a modest roll, the school can offer personalised attention and close relationships between staff, pupils and families, fostering a supportive and inclusive community.

History

Boston National School has been educating children in its current building since 1873, although evidence shows that formal education in the area dates back to the mid‑19th century when children attended four local hedge schools. The school celebrated its 140th anniversary in October 2013 and marked its 150th anniversary in May 2024, coinciding with the opening of a new extension that expanded the school’s facilities.
