Kilminchy School House

Kilminchy School House in Portlaoise is a privately‑run Montessori school and day‑care centre that has been operating since September 1999. It provides a nurturing, creative learning environment for children aged one year to five and a half years, combining the internationally recognised Montessori method with a Forest School ethos and a range of additional activities. The centre is the only certified Montessori school in Portlaoise, accredited by St Nicholas Montessori College under the EOCP, and it has been awarded “Excellent” in all areas by the Department of Education and Skills for its early years provision. The facility offers both full‑day and part‑time sessions, including a wobbler programme for the youngest children, advanced Montessori part‑time classes, and an afternoon playgroup that follows Montessori principles. Kilminchy also participates in the national Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) scheme and the National Childcare Scheme, providing free‑play school places for eligible families.
