Burren Sonas

The Burren Sonas Kindergarten is a community‑based preschool situated in the heart of Kilfenora, Co. Clare. Operating Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm, the centre provides a half‑day, part‑time early childhood service that has been serving families for over twenty years. Its programme is firmly rooted in the Steiner (Waldorf) philosophy, emphasising a rhythm of seasonal festivals, natural materials and holistic development. Children engage in a varied daily schedule that includes circle time in Gloria’s garden, outdoor play, garden work, walks, and a healthy organic meal prepared on site. The environment is deliberately simple, with wooden toys, games and soft dolls made from natural fibres, encouraging imaginative play. A broad range of creative and practical activities are offered, such as painting, cooking, baking, sewing, felting, weaving, chopping fruit, and crafts. The centre also runs a dedicated sensory room to support children with special needs, providing a calm, safe space for rest or one‑to‑one interaction. The focus on routine, rhythm and connection with nature aims to nurture children’s curiosity, independence and love of learning.
