About
St. Patrick's B.N.S. is a Catholic boys' primary school on Elphin Street in Strokestown, Co. Roscommon, opposite the Garda station. It has DEIS status. The school has 49 pupils and takes third to sixth class only, taught in three classrooms by three teachers, with a special education teacher and a special needs assistant also in post. Besides the classrooms there is a staff room, a special education room, an office and a store, with a veranda beside the yard and a planted garden at the front. Children of other faiths are admitted, and the Irish greeting Céad Míle Fáilte is displayed over the entrance. Activities take in gaelic, hurling, soccer, basketball, swimming, cross country, art, quizzes and drama, and the school works on Green Schools and has taken up chess. A sports day is held before the summer holidays and a tour closes each school year. Sixth class pupils organise a jumble sale for charity and go on retreat to Knock Shrine before Confirmation. Black and amber are the school colours. A 2021 grant under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, funded through the European Union, paid for a set of iPads used across the curriculum.
