About

Williams Park in Rathmines, Dublin 6 is the location of St Louis Primary School, a mixed Catholic primary school with 590 pupils. Children are enrolled from the age of 4 up to 12, in classes running from Junior Infants through to Sixth Class. All subjects of the Primary School Curriculum are taught. Infant classes use the Aistear framework, with learning through open-ended play led by the children themselves. There are junior and senior choirs, and the school reports that its orchestra has won awards. The hall is also used by Cantairi Óga Átha Cliath, a choir that continues to rehearse there. The school sets out its approach as building confidence and a positive sense of self.

History

Foundation dates to 1940, when an infant school and a senior primary school were set up under the St Louis name, both admitting girls only. Co-education followed in 1984, when two boys' schools, Richmond Hill and Tranquilla, were taken in. The infant and senior schools then combined with each other in September 2023 to form a single primary school. Cantairi Óga Átha Cliath, a choir founded at the school in 1961 by Proinsias O Ceallaigh, was conducted by Brian O Dubhghaill until 2013, and it still rehearses in the school hall.
