About
Shanbogh National School is a co‑educational, Catholic primary school that aims to provide a well‑ordered, caring and secure environment where pupils’ intellectual, spiritual, physical, moral and cultural needs are nurtured. The school embraces a Catholic ethos while recognising and respecting other faiths, fostering an inclusive community that values both individual growth and collective responsibility. A strong emphasis is placed on the professional and personal development of staff through ongoing development programmes, ensuring high‑quality teaching and learning. The school benefits from modern facilities following a major 2013 development that added two new classrooms, a child‑friendly playground and a sports field. Outdoor learning is supported by a school garden where pupils grow and harvest vegetables, and a range of extracurricular programmes enrich the curriculum – from GAA sessions and science experiments to mindfulness workshops, arts and crafts, and cultural celebrations such as Lá Glas and World Book Day. These activities promote creativity, wellbeing and community spirit, making Shanbogh a vibrant centre for primary education.
History
Shanbogh National School was built in 1944 and moved from Greene’s Cross to its present site in 1945, with pupils helping to transport goods. Early school life was marked by barefoot classes, a well on the lane, and lively play among the school’s “hot pokers” and bamboo groves. In 2013 the school underwent a substantial upgrade, adding two new classrooms, a child‑friendly playground and a sports field, and celebrated the opening with an outdoor mass and performances by the school and parish choirs.
