History
Building work on the present school started in 1947 and was carried out by Slevin Brothers. The official opening followed on the 2nd of February 1948, when teachers and pupils transferred from the older primary school at Knock Crossroads. The half acre site was paid for by the Department of Education, with a local contribution. Two classrooms were provided, with dry toilets against a wall dividing the yard. That wall came down during renovation work in 1980, when toilets were brought inside, oil central heating replaced the gas heaters, the yard was tarmacadamed and mahogany windows were fitted. As new houses were built locally the number of pupils rose, and Brendan Dunnion & Sons added a further room and toilets in 1992. From 2005 the school acted as a base school for Learning Support, with Donaughmore N.S. as its partner. Pupils were later taught at the Meenreagh Resource Centre in Killygordon while Gildea Brothers extended and refurbished the school, work supported by a grant of €380,000 from the Department of Education and Science and €27,000 from the church.
