About

With 318 pupils, Craughwell National School is a co-educational Catholic primary school in Craughwell, Co. Galway. Class groups run from Junior and Senior Infants up to sixth class, with several levels split across more than one room and some combined classes. Sport covers Gaelic football and camogie in Cumann na mBunscoil competitions, athletics at City Sports in Dangan and at the Christy Kennedy Sports Day, and an annual sports day contested between colour teams. Chess players have reached All Ireland finals in Dublin, and pupils have competed in the national LERO Scratch finals held at the University of Limerick. The school works with 5 neighbouring schools in the Creative Clusters initiative, taking the local area as its theme. Forest school sessions run outdoors, a class visit to Killora Cemetery was arranged through the Heritage in Schools scheme, and the Amber Flag committee organised a day marking the countries and cultures represented among pupils. A sculpture was installed at the school and formally unveiled. Second class pupils make their First Holy Communion, and sixth class pupils graduate at the end of the school year.
