About
Scoil Mhuire Lismackin is a vibrant primary school situated in the tranquil countryside of County Tipperary, a short ten‑minute drive from Roscrea. Established in 1983, the school has continually expanded its provision, with major refurbishments in 2009, 2022 and a series of enhancements in 2025 that include a brand‑new classroom, a modern, fully accessible toilet block with ramps and handrails, a sheltered outdoor area and a new rear entrance. The campus now benefits from a dedicated staff car park, upgraded lighting and a community sensory garden, while the “Sacred Space” at the front of the school was refreshed in spring 2024. The educational ethos centres on a holistic approach encapsulated by the motto “Learning Today for a Better Tomorrow”. Pupils enjoy a balanced programme that blends strong academic foundations with a rich extracurricular offering: competitive participation in Cumann na mBunscol, soccer, gymnastics, basketball, hurling (supported by a local trainer), debating, and creative projects such as the Creative Cluster and BLAST, which explore podcasting, film and animation. Music is integral, with regular instruction in tin whistle and vocal training. State‑of‑the‑art ICT facilities underpin learning, with interactive whiteboards, desktop computers, Chromebooks and iPads in every classroom, all connected to fibre broadband for seamless video conferencing. The school’s commitment to health and the environment is recognised by the Active Flag (June 2023) and a Green Flag for the Marine Environment, reflecting its dedication to physical well‑being and sustainable practice.
