About
Scoil Bhríde Midleton, also known locally as St Brigid’s Primary School, is a Catholic‑ethos primary school situated on Ashlin Road, Castleredmond, Midleton, Co. Cork. From September 2026 the school will operate as a co‑educational institution, welcoming boys and girls alike. The school’s vision centres on nurturing, unity and empowerment, providing a professional, caring, safe and respectful environment where every child is encouraged to reach their full potential. The curriculum combines high academic standards with a broad, holistic programme of experiences. In addition to mainstream classes, the school offers a range of additional provision and a variety of before‑, during‑ and after‑school activities, supporting the development of the whole child. These opportunities aim to prepare pupils for the demands of further education and a rapidly changing society, fostering both intellectual growth and personal wellbeing. Facilities include dedicated classroom spaces, activity areas for clubs and sports, and resources for creative and practical learning. The school maintains active communication with families through social media and regular updates, and enrolment for the 2026‑2027 school year is currently open.
History
Presentation Convent Midleton owed its establishment to Fr. Stephen Coppinger, who belonged to a prominent family in Midleton. Three sisters arrived from the North Presentation convent in Cork on April 29th 1834, and on May 12th 1834 they opened a school for the children of Midleton, which drew great numbers. During the Great Famine the sisters used their limited resources, along with contributions from benefactors, to provide daily meals for over 200 children. By 1850 the school's roll had grown to 700 pupils, with 29 sisters teaching there. A new building had its foundation stone laid in 1852. The Infant School at Rosary Place was built in 1961, followed by the Junior School on the site known as the Dean's field in 1978 and a hall, funded by the Presentation Sisters and local fundraising, in 1984. The Senior School was added in 2009.
