About

Scoil an Chroí Ró Naofa Íosa, also known as Sacred Heart of Jesus National School, is a Catholic co-educational primary school serving Huntstown in Dublin 15. It is one of the largest primary schools in the country, with a student body in excess of 850 and a teaching staff of nearly 50. Alongside mainstream classes the school runs Coiscéim classes for autistic pupils, with admission to these handled through the Dublin 15 primary autism class application process rather than by the school directly. The school motto is "Ní neart go cur le chéile". Sport is prominent: teams compete in Cumann na mBunscol football and hurling and in the Fingal athletics and GAA leagues, and coaching partnerships operate with a local GAA club and the county sports office. The school holds an Active School Flag and a Yellow Flag for diversity work. A school musical is staged at a theatre in Blanchardstown. Other provision includes swimming, a student council, free hot lunches, and Rainbows, a support programme for children dealing with bereavement or family separation.

History

The school has served the parish of Huntstown since 1982, opening as a two-teacher junior school before growing to its present size. Pupils placed letters and drawings in a time capsule in January 2000 to mark the millennium, having written them in December 1999. The capsule was sealed for 25 years and opened in November 2025, after which the school sought out former pupils from that period to return their contributions. Pupils then wrote fresh letters to be sealed in the capsule again, with 2050 set as the date for reopening.
