About

Rosegreen National School is a co‑educational, Catholic primary school that provides a well‑ordered, caring and secure environment for its pupils. The school’s ethos is founded on meeting the intellectual, spiritual, physical, moral and cultural needs of children, while also recognising and respecting other faiths. A broad and balanced curriculum underpins daily learning, complemented by a strong focus on digital literacy and active, experiential education. The school encourages the professional and personal development of its staff through regular development programmes and promotes strong parent involvement via the Parents Association and regular home‑school communication. The school operates with six classroom teachers, two special‑education teachers and two full‑time Special Needs Assistants, supporting a roll of around 140 pupils. Facilities include modern classrooms, a dedicated staff room and office, and ample outdoor space used for activities such as cross‑country, field days and art competitions. The school day runs from 9:20 am for junior and senior infants and until 3:00 pm for older classes, with supervised care provided from 9:10 am to 3:00 pm. Emphasis is placed on fostering self‑esteem, respect for people and property, and a sense of responsibility within the whole school community.

History

Rosegreen National School moved to its present site in 1967, initially operating as a two‑teacher school with about 65 pupils. Following the closure of nearby schools, enrolment quickly rose to over 100, prompting expansion to a three‑teacher model by the mid‑1970s. In 1987 the current St Thomas the Apostle building replaced the original cedar‑wood structure. Subsequent developments under successive principals saw the addition of a new classroom, staff room and office, and growth to a staff complement that now includes six class teachers, two special‑education teachers and two special‑needs assistants. Today the school educates more than 140 pupils and continues to build on its long‑standing tradition of community‑focused education.
