History
In the 1830s, Fr. Fitzpatrick, a curate in Millstreet, approached local Catholic gentry for land for a church, presbytery and school. Ellen O'Leary of the Coomlogane Estate granted the land on which the present day church, presbytery and school stand, and provided money to fund the ventures. In 1840 four nuns from Killarney arrived in Millstreet, beginning the Presentation Sisters' tradition of education in the town. A secondary school opened in 1910 and closed in 1973 when Millstreet Community School replaced it. The present primary school building opened in September 1978. The first lay principal was appointed in 2002, and two extensions were built in 2009 and 2012. In 1999 refugees arrived from Kosovo, beginning an influx of foreign students, and Ukrainian pupils have since joined the school.
