About
With 84 pupils from junior infants to sixth class, this co-educational Catholic primary school sits at Mayo Abbey, near Claremorris, Co. Mayo. Physical activity shapes much of the school year. An active school committee organises the programme, and a walkway of 293 metres runs around the perimeter of the grounds. Pupils take part in the Daily Mile, a running tour of Europe, a skipping challenge and short indoor movement breaks, with sixth class acting as active leaders at break times. Sport is arranged in partnership with Cumann na mBunscol, the FAI, Connacht Rugby, Tennis Ireland, Athletics Ireland and Health Promoting Schools, and pupils compete in cross country, futsal and Gaelic football. In 2021 the school received funding under the national recovery and resilience plan, which paid for tablets and Chromebooks lent to pupils without devices at home, and for visualisers and interactive projectors in classrooms.
