About
A co-educational primary school under Catholic patronage, Lauragh National School in Co. Kerry has 17 pupils on roll. The school stands across from Derreen Gardens, and that setting prompted plans for a sensory garden where children can engage with nature outdoors. Bulb planting for the garden is handled by pupils on the Nature Heroes Committee. The project grew out of the school's part in the Creative Schools programme, which the Arts Council supports. An artist visited to work with pupils on ideas about creativity in music, art, drama, movement and writing, and the garden design followed from that. Pupils and staff hold a Silver Stag Award. Mathematics teaching and learning at the school was inspected by the Department of Education, with the report issued in 2024. Children also take part in a joint Christmas production, Christmas in Tuosist, staged with the other local primary school, Scoil Réalt na Mara.
