About
Kilmyshall National School is a co‑educational Catholic primary school situated in a picturesque rural setting in County Wexford, approximately two miles from Bunclody. Operating under the patronage of the Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Ferns, the school serves the local community with a child‑centred ethos that respects religious and cultural diversity. With a permanent staff of seven teachers, including five classroom teachers and two special‑education teachers, the school promotes inclusiveness and celebrates the uniqueness of each pupil, fostering development across spiritual, moral, cognitive, emotional, imaginative, aesthetic, social and physical domains. The school’s facilities have evolved considerably since its establishment in 1970. The original three‑classroom building was expanded in the mid‑1980s with an additional classroom and a multi‑purpose room, and a resource room was added in 1998. A major refurbishment and extension project began in 2014, introducing new wiring, fire and security systems, and two state‑of‑the‑art classrooms completed in April 2015, together with an expanded car‑park. These modernised spaces support a curriculum that encourages independence, creativity and lifelong learning.
History
Kilmyshall National School opened in 1970 with three classrooms. In the mid‑1980s a fourth classroom and a multi‑purpose room were added, followed by a resource room in 1998. A comprehensive refurbishment and extension programme commenced in 2014, during which the original building was re‑wired and new fire and security systems installed. Two new state‑of‑the‑art classrooms were constructed between October 2014 and April 2015, and the school car‑park was extended in the summer of 2015. The project was largely funded by the local communities of Kilmyshall and Bunclody.
