About
Killusty National School is a co‑educational, Catholic primary school situated in the picturesque village of Killusty, at the foot of Slievenamon in County Tipperary. Under the patronage of the Archbishop of Cashel and Emly, the school aims to provide a caring, happy and secure environment that meets the intellectual, spiritual, physical, moral, social and cultural needs of its pupils. The curriculum is complemented by a strong emphasis on experiential learning, with regular projects in art, science, health and wellbeing, and a robust Green Schools programme that this year focuses on sustainable travel, including traffic surveys and a walkability audit of the local area. The school’s community‑centred ethos is evident in a wide range of extracurricular activities. Pupils take part in trips to local heritage sites such as the Fethard Museum and Dóirín’s Pottery Studio, engage in habitat studies along the nearby stream, and participate in national initiatives like Active Schools and Kindness Week. Sporting events, cultural celebrations and creative workshops – from St Brigid’s cross making to master‑chef cooking sessions – enrich the pupil experience and foster a strong sense of belonging within the small‑school, big‑heart community.
