About
Gaelscoil na Giúise is a multi-denominational, co-educational primary school in Teach na Giúise (Firhouse), Dublin, under the patronage of An Foras Pátrúnachta. Founded in 2013, the school teaches all subjects through Irish except English, and operates a full early immersion policy: English is not taught until First Class, and children are spoken to in Irish only from their first day. The school follows the same curriculum as all primary schools. It has two mainstream classes at each level from Junior Infants to Sixth Class, and two Special Education Classes, the first opened in September 2022 and the second in September 2023. The school uses the Croí na Scoile ethics programme, which involves the study of different faiths and belief systems. Pupils take part in art, STEM, ICT, sport and other activities. The school received a grant in 2021, funded through the EU Recovery and Resilience Facility, which was used to buy Chromebooks for maths, reading, STEAM activities, projects, a Coding Club and LEGO Education SPIKE. It participates in the Creative Schools Programme and first took part in Cumann na mBunscol in 2022.
History
Gaelscoil na Giúise was founded by the Department of Education and Skills in 2013 in response to local demand for a new multi-denominational Gaelscoil. The school opened on 28 August 2013 with one teacher, the principal Fionnuala Ní Riain, and six children, all in Junior Infants. For the first two years it was located in rooms in Firhouse Community Centre, and the school took in twenty new pupils in its second year. The school later moved to prefabricated rooms on Ballycullen Avenue. Planning permission was granted and construction of a new school began in 2017. In November 2017 the school moved temporarily into the new Educate Together school building, and on 18 July 2018 it took ownership of its own new building.
